Fungal Rot
There are many types of fungi that may attack your lumber. There are dry rots, wet rots, wood stains that discolor the wood. As with other pests, the key to prevention is proper pretreatment. It is important to remember that many of the products sold retail are not true wood preservatives and will not protect against fungal decay. However, it is possible to stop the rot once started and even to restore some level of integrity to the decomposed timber.
